Kumuyi Warns: “Other Religious People Are Marrying Four Wives, Five Wives and Populating the Nation”

Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has urged Christians to embrace marriage and childbearing, warning that fear and indecision in following God’s commands could diminish families and the church.

The cleric delivered the message during a recent sermon streamed on YouTube, citing Scripture to highlight the importance of faith, obedience, and family growth.

Referencing Jeremiah 29:6, Pastor Kumuyi emphasized, “Take ye wives and beget children, sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands that they may bear. Your will increase, you will not diminish.” He urged believers to obey this command, stressing that proactive family-building is a key way to honor God and strengthen the church community.

The pastor highlighted a growing concern among Christians who, he says, often allow fear, cultural considerations, or church bureaucracy to limit marriages and childbearing. “The man, the husband, the father, is always careful. The child is turning 26, 27, 32… and when someone asks for the hand of his daughter, he is always looking at tribe, background, or resources and keeps saying no,” Pastor Kumuyi said.

He criticized church marriage committees that impose unnecessary restrictions, warning that such hesitancy leads to stagnation. “While other religious people are marrying four, five, or even seven wives and bearing children, populating the nation, some Christian denominations are limiting marriages. They are not walking by faith. What will happen is the church will die out when the older ones are gone,” he cautioned.

Pastor Kumuyi encouraged families to stand by faith and foresight, releasing young sons and daughters for marriage and trusting God for childbearing. “The way is open. Childbearing will start in your families, in Jesus’ name,” he said, affirming that following God’s instructions ensures family growth and the continuation of the church’s legacy.

Through this message, the cleric reinforced the biblical principle that obedience, faith, and proactive family life are central to both spiritual and societal prosperity, urging Christians not to fear but to act in accordance with God’s word.
