According to a report published by Daily Post, Rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Mike Ozekhome, has welcomed Nigeria’s decision to revert to its old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” calling it a long-overdue change.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Ozekhome expressed his delight, noting that he had advocated for this change during the 2014 National Conference.
“Bringing the old National Anthem back is well overdue. It has better lyrics in content and context, like the Senate President said. It is better than the other one,” Ozekhome stated.
In addition to supporting the anthem change, Ozekhome suggested that Nigeria should also consider changing its name and flag.
“The name Nigeria and the flag should also be changed,” Ozekhome added.
He argued that such changes would better reflect the nation’s identity and aspirations.
This development comes after President Bola Tinubu signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law, reinstating the old anthem, which was sung for the first time today at the National Assembly….See More
