The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director, has declared that the party will not back down despite alleged difficulties in securing venues for its political activities in Abuja.
Director made the statement during a television interview aired by Arise News on Sunday, October 25, 2026, where he accused individuals he associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) of frustrating the opposition party’s efforts to secure facilities for its planned events.
According to him, the NDC has encountered repeated challenges in its search for a suitable venue, with the latest incident involving a location for which the party had reportedly made payment. He disclosed that the current arrangement was the fourth venue the party had attempted to secure after experiencing problems with previous locations.
Director alleged that shortly after the party announced its latest venue, its representatives received information that individuals claiming ownership of the property had objected to the arrangement and advised the party to collect its money.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the development, describing it as part of what he considered attempts to prevent the NDC from carrying out its political activities freely.
The party spokesperson also alleged that the NDC had faced difficulties in securing billboard spaces for its political messaging. He maintained that such obstacles would not discourage the party from reaching out to Nigerians or participating in the country’s political process.
Speaking during the interview, Director said the party believed that Nigerians were entitled to participate in politics without intimidation or unnecessary restrictions.
He stated that the NDC had made it clear that it would not allow the alleged challenges to force it out of the political space, insisting that the country belonged to all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliations.
Director said, “This is the fourth venue we are paying for. We kept this one under wraps until just a few hours ago, when we issued the press release, only for us to be called that the political marauders have come and said they are the owners of the land, so we should take back our money.”
He added that the party remained determined to proceed with its activities despite the reported difficulties.
“But we are insisting and telling them that we are Nigerians, we cannot be intimidated, we cannot be pushed aside,” he said.
During the programme, the presenter sought clarification on whether the NDC would proceed with its scheduled activities despite the alleged challenges surrounding the venue.
In response, Director affirmed that the party would continue with its plans, reiterating that Nigeria was a country shared by all citizens and that no political group should be prevented from exercising its rights.
Among the planned events is the inauguration of the party’s national campaign council, an important step in organising its political structure and preparing its members for upcoming electoral contests.
The party is also expected to commission its new national secretariat in the Jabi area of Abuja. In addition, the NDC plans to present certificates of return to its candidates as part of its preparations for the electoral process.
