Senator Adams Oshiomhole told the Senate that he and Senate President Godswill Akpabio had agreed to end their public disagreements, but said the agreement was broken during a debate on the floor of the chamber.
In a video shared by Vaible TV, Oshiomhole explained that both men had signed a truce to avoid further hostility between them. However, he said Akpabio later referred to a previous issue, which he believed went against their understanding.
Despite expressing his disappointment, Oshiomhole said he would not respond by reopening the matter. He stressed that he respected Akpabio as his leader, his Senate President and his brother, adding that he would let the issue go to keep the peace.
He also used the opportunity to urge the Senate leadership to protect all members equally, including those who are vertically challenged.
Responding to Oshiomhole’s remarks, Akpabio said he did not intend to offend him. He explained that his earlier comment came while responding to another senator who had raised the issue of a cancelled warrant of arrest. Akpabio acknowledged that he and Oshiomhole had agreed to end their disagreements and said an agreement should be respected.
The Senate President assured lawmakers that he would not return to the issue in future debates. He also pledged that, as the presiding officer, he would protect every senator fairly, including Oshiomhole, while ensuring that proceedings in the chamber remain respectful.
