Fake Agency: If This Office Operated for More Than a Year, Then There Was Failure of FG

During an interview on SYMFONI, Igho Akeregha, a media consultant and civil society activist, reacted to the controversy surrounding the alleged fake federal agency that reportedly operated within government structures for more than a year before it came to public attention.

He said the development raises serious questions about accountability and oversight in public administration.

Akeregha argued that no government office or agency should be able to function for such a long period without being detected by the appropriate authorities. According to him, the situation points to possible lapses in the country’s administrative system.

He said government institutions are expected to have internal checks capable of identifying irregularities before they become national controversies. He added that effective supervision is a basic responsibility of every public institution.

The media consultant said Nigerians deserve a full explanation of how the office allegedly carried out its activities for such an extended period without attracting official scrutiny.

Akeregha noted that any investigation into the matter should establish who approved the office’s operations, how it functioned, and why existing oversight mechanisms failed to detect the problem earlier.

He also stated that public confidence in government institutions depends on transparency and accountability whenever issues of this nature emerge.

According to him, identifying those responsible for any administrative failures would help strengthen public trust and reduce the likelihood of similar incidents occurring in the future.
