We’re Hitting Them Very Hard”: Trump Vows Iran Blockade Says US Will Be “Reimbursed” for Protection

According to a report by Telegraph on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the United States launched a new round of military strikes against Iran early Tuesday, escalating tensions across the Middle East after President Donald Trump announced that Washington would reinstate a blockade on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.

The renewed military action followed a series of attacks on commercial shipping that have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict.

According to US Central Command, the latest strikes are aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities and preventing further attacks on civilians and commercial vessels operating in the strategic waterway.

“These strikes will continue imposing a heavy cost on Iranian forces and degrade their ability to attack innocent civilians and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” the military said.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office shortly after the operation began, President Donald Trump described the offensive as “another major attack.”

“We’re hitting them very hard. And it’ll continue, and we’ll see what happens,” Trump said. “We’re knocking out all of their offensive capability and we’re controlling the straits. We’re putting the blockade back.”

The president also announced that the United States plans to charge commercial vessels for security protection while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

“We’re protecting a very rich portion of the world,” Trump said. “We’re spending money. And so, what we’ve done is, we are going to be reimbursed for protection.”

Iran responded by launching attacks targeting Bahrain and two United Arab Emirates-linked tankers travelling through the Strait of Hormuz. The Emirati Defence Ministry said cruise missiles struck the vessels, killing one Indian sailor and injuring eight others, including six Indians and two Ukrainians. Both ships caught fire before the flames were extinguished.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for the attack, alleging the vessels ignored repeated warnings before entering what it described as a restricted area.

“They chose to pass through a minefield and were subsequently targeted and disabled,” the Guard said.

Bahrain also activated missile warning sirens twice as Iranian attacks targeted the kingdom. Authorities did not immediately report casualties or damage.

The UAE condemned the attacks and warned that it reserved the right to respond.

“The UAE reserves its full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, its citizens and residents,” the Defence Ministry said…See Morē
