Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command have made one of the biggest drug busts in recent months, rejecting a ₦500 million bribe and seizing suspected Canadian Loud worth ₦7.8 billion in Lagos.
The raid, carried out over the weekend in an apartment within an estate in Mende, Maryland, Lagos, followed months of surveillance and intelligence gathering. Officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) and divisional detectives arrested several suspects, including the alleged kingpin, 41-year-old Eke Henry Ifeanyi.
Addressing journalists, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, said the suspect was apprehended on May 19 after weeks of strategic monitoring. During the operation, Ifeanyi allegedly attempted to bribe the SPU commander with ₦500 million to stop the raid and allow his associates to move the consignment elsewhere.
“The suspect offered ₦500 million to the SPU commander in an attempt to make the team stand down and allow him to contact his associates to move the consignment elsewhere. The offer was rejected immediately and properly documented for further investigation,” Jimoh stated.
The raid uncovered hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud, a high-grade strain of cannabis increasingly linked to transnational drug syndicates operating across West Africa. Police said the drugs were stored in the suspect’s residence and had an estimated street value of ₦7.8 billion.
The operation was executed under the directive of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, with technical support and coordination between the SPU and Zone 2 Headquarters. AIG Jimoh described the rejection of the bribe as evidence of renewed professionalism and discipline within the Force.
IGP Disu commended the officers, noting that the success validates the ongoing grassroots policing strategy aimed at strengthening collaboration between tactical and divisional units across Lagos and Ogun states. He assured that the Force would continue to reward integrity and ensure accountability within its ranks.
The news has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the officers for rejecting the massive bribe. “This is what we want to see more of,” one user wrote on X. Others called for the suspect to face the full weight of the law and urged the police to sustain the momentum against drug trafficking networks….See More
