I Was Sent To Catholic School In Kaduna,I Was Classmate With Pam, He Was Victim Of 1966 Coup-Sanusi

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has reflected on his childhood experience in Kaduna and the painful memories of the 1966 coup, revealing how one of his schoolmates became a victim of the political crisis that shook Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview on Signature TV, Sanusi recounted how his early education exposed him to people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds at a young age. According to the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he was enrolled in a Catholic school in Kaduna when he was just eight years old.

Sanusi said the experience shaped his worldview and understanding of national unity long before he became a prominent traditional ruler and public figure. Recalling the tragic fate of one of his classmates, he said: “At the age of 8, I was sent to a catholic school in Kaduna, St Anne’s. I was classmate with a young man, Yusuf Pam. Unfortunately he was one of the victim of 1966 Coup.”

The monarch’s remarks came as he reflected on Nigeria’s history of ethnic and political tensions and the importance of peaceful coexistence among citizens.
