Research Professor of International Relations and Strategic Studies at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Femi Otubanjo, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a dominant force within the Peoples Democratic Party during his time in office, saying the ex-leader controlled the direction of the party almost single-handedly.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Otubanjo reflected on the internal structure and leadership style that characterised the PDP under Obasanjo’s administration. According to him, the former president stood out as the central decision-maker within the ruling party at the time.
“Under Obasanjo, Obasanjo was the only man thinking for the party. I give that to him, but he was also a dictator,” Otubanjo said during the interview.
The professor’s remarks came amid broader discussions about leadership culture, party organisation and the evolution of political parties in Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999.
