Legal expert Liborous Oshoma has shared his view on the recent Ibadan political meeting involving key opposition figures, describing it as a strategic move rather than a genuine unity effort.
Speaking during an interview on AIT News, he stated that the gathering brought together ambitious politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, all of whom were seen as strong contenders. Unlike past alliances where one candidate clearly stood out, this situation created tension over who would step aside for another.
Oshoma explained that the Ibadan meeting was not really a summit, but more of a calculated attempt to push Atiku forward as the main candidate. The plan, as he described it, was to pressure other contenders into accepting Atiku as the consensus choice, with Seyi Makinde positioned as a potential running mate.
This arrangement, he suggested, would have sidelined other major figures like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. Sensing this possibility, some of the politicians reportedly decided to act quickly.
He noted that the Supreme Court judgment at the time provided an opportunity for Obi and others to shift direction and align with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a party that had already shown interest in working with them. The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) had also reached out as an alternative option.
