Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a sharp warning against the United States, stating that American ships belong in the “depths” of the Persian Gulf.
The remark, reported by BRICSinfo, comes amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and follows additional statements from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warning that US vessels could share the fate of American bases previously targeted during the conflict.
The comments were made against the backdrop of the 2026 Iran conflict, which escalated earlier this year and included airstrikes that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Mojtaba Khamenei assumed leadership in March 2026 and has since taken a firm public stance on Iran’s military and strategic posture. His latest statement reinforces Tehran’s opposition to US naval operations in the Gulf region.
The IRGC added that American vessels operating in the area would face consequences similar to those experienced by US military installations struck during earlier exchanges.
While no immediate new attacks have been reported, the rhetoric signals continued volatility despite a fragile ceasefire arrangement.
The Strait of Hormuz remains central to the standoff.
The narrow waterway carries a significant share of global oil shipments, making it a strategic chokepoint for international energy markets. In recent months, the United States has enforced naval patrols and maritime security measures, citing concerns over Iranian mining activities and vessel interdictions.
Iran, in turn, has accused Washington of aggressive blockade tactics and interference in regional sovereignty.
Shipping disruptions and insurance cost spikes have already affected global oil markets, with traders closely monitoring developments in the Gulf.
Any direct confrontation involving US naval forces and Iranian units could have immediate economic consequences beyond the region….See More
