Jubilation broke out at the Supreme Court complex on Thursday after the apex court affirmed the David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the party’s authentic leadership.
According to Punch on Thursday, supporters of the former Senate President in an online video, clad in ADC-branded attire, erupted into songs and dances moments after the unanimous judgment by a five-member panel. Chants of solidarity filled the premises as party faithful celebrated what they described as a decisive victory.
Addressing supporters, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ruling ends months of internal crisis and restores legitimacy to the ADC. He declared the party ready to play a leading role in coalition efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals filed by rival claimants Nafiu Bala Gombe and Temitope Ogga, ruling that they lacked merit. It also set aside an earlier “status quo” order that had restrained INEC from recognising congresses conducted by the Mark-led National Executive Committee.
The judgment is expected to pave the way for the ADC to proceed with its internal processes, including primaries, while strengthening its position in ongoing opposition alliance talks.
