Bayo Onanuga Reacts As NNPC Successfully Completes Installation Of Gas Pipeline Beneath River Niger

Bayo Onanuga has reacted to the successful completion of a major gas pipeline project carried out by the NNPC Limited beneath the River Niger. The presidential aide shared the development through his official X account on Thursday, April 30, 2026, describing the achievement as an important advancement in Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

According to the information he shared, the project involved the installation of a 130-kilometre gas pipeline stretching across three communities in Delta State. The pipeline project was executed by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company, a subsidiary fully owned by NNPC Limited and responsible for expanding gas distribution facilities across the country.

Onanuga explained that the successful laying of the pipeline beneath the River Niger represents a significant breakthrough in river-crossing engineering and modern pipeline technology in Nigeria. He noted that the project was completed using advanced horizontal directional drilling methods, which made it possible to install the pipeline underground without disrupting the river’s natural flow or surrounding environment.

The presidential spokesman further stated that the development marks another milestone in the ongoing expansion of Nigeria’s gas transmission network. According to him, the infrastructure is expected to strengthen energy distribution and improve the availability of gas supply across different parts of the country.

He also disclosed that the newly completed pipeline has the capacity to transport up to two billion standard cubic feet of gas daily. The increase in transmission capability, he explained, is expected to help reduce shortages in gas supply while supporting industrial growth, electricity generation, and other sectors that depend heavily on natural gas.
