It’s A Futile Exercise — Chieftain Reveals Why Atiku and Kwankwaso’s ADC Alliance May Collapse

The recently concluded national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently facing a massive legal threat that could blow the party’s 2027 plans apart.

Abdul Jabar Rufai, a prominent youth leader and former PDP chieftain, has raised an alarm, describing the entire exercise as a “futile exercise” and a mere “rainbow reunion.”

According to him, the convention lacks the necessary legal backing to survive any serious challenge in court.

Speaking during a live session on Arise News this Friday, April 17, 2026, Rufai slammed the party leadership for repeating the same procedural blunders that previously grounded the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He expressed deep shock that veteran politicians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso—men he described as having “heavy political CVs”—could walk into such a glaring tactical trap.

The primary issue, according to Rufai, is a direct violation of Section 82, Subsection 3 of the Electoral Act 2026.

He revealed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was reportedly absent during the convention, a blunder that legally nullifies the entire gathering.

He further pointed out that congresses failed to hold properly in Ebonyi, Adamawa, and Sokoto states before the national exercise, leaving the party split into illegal factions.

“I don’t think the convention is going to stand,” Rufai insisted, noting that the similarities to failed PDP conventions are too many to ignore.

He questioned how “kingmakers” like Kwankwaso and “legends” like Atiku could overlook the mandatory requirement for INEC monitoring.

As it stands, the ADC’s dream of a “Third Force” coalition for 2027 might be dead on arrival, as the leadership has essentially handed their opponents a legal weapon to dismantle the alliance before the elections even begin….See More
