Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission has taken to his official X handle to send a reminder to the president on the promises he made to the people in 2023. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that he failed to keep his promises, especially on security.
The recent increase in bandit activities across the country, particularly in the northern region had generated grievous concerns amongst the populace, with many calling on appropriate authorities to employ pragmatic measures in tackling the menace.
It can be recalled that within the space of one week, bandits annihilated a Brigadier-general Oseni Braimah and several other soldiers, while a market in Yobe State was left decimated. The attacks continued unabated in other states across the country.
However, Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and legal practitioner in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, sent a strong reminder to the president regarding his promises to the people in 2023.
According to his statements, he pointed out that the people was promised that a proactive and intelligence driven security approach will be employed to tackle the menace unleashed by the bandits.
However, according to Chidi Odinkalu, the recent trajectory of bandits activities indicated that the president never meant any of his promises, as a result senior military personnel were paying with their lives.
