According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, Ireti Kingibe, the senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has spoken out about a contentious phone conversation she had with Nyesom Wike, the minister of the FCT, revealing that the matter needed the intervention of the Senate President to defuse emotions and find a resolution.
On Friday, while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, a current affairs program, Kingibe made the revelation. What started off as a phone call to the minister for what she thought was an immediate matter soon turned into an angry exchange, she said.
She had called Wike multiple times until he finally picked up, the lawmaker claims. Wike and I are both in possession of each other’s phone numbers. The correct number is mine. I contacted him previously. “I called and called until he picked up after he didn’t answer the first time,” she explained.
As soon as the minister answered, the discussion quickly became heated, according to Kingibe. She claimed that Wike started becoming angry and that she had to retaliate by getting angry too. He then started screaming at me. She related the story of how they got angry and then put the phone down.
The senator justified her persistence in phoning by saying the matter she wanted to discuss was urgent.
Instead of wanting to provoke a confrontation, she insisted that she was driven by a sense of urgency. That matter was really important to me, so I contacted him right away. “I was dead set on him picking it up,” she added.
Allegedly, Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate, intervened to mediate after the heated discussion. Akpabio reportedly started a three-way call with the two sides, according to Kingibe, which helped to end the argument.
She did not elaborate on the nature of the disagreement, but she did say that it was resolved with the help of the Senate President. Remembering back to the talk, Kingibe mentioned that she had proposed going to the minister’s office to have a face-to-face meeting about the matter.
Was I asking if you were in your office? Permit me to visit you. “No, no, no, come not yet,” he adamantly refused. That concluded the discussion. According to her, he seemed to think I was going to hurt him….See More
