Chinyere Kalu, the first Nigerian female pilot, has stated that the first day she flew an aircraft alone was one of the happiest moments of her life.
In an interview on the Happily Together show, Kalu said that before a student pilot is allowed to fly solo, the instructor trains and tests the student pilot thoroughly until the pilot becomes fully confident.
Kalu stated that the first time she flew an aircraft by herself, she felt great excitement and a sense of freedom.
In Kalu’s words: “The very first day I took up the aircraft into the air on my own I was so excited. I was so happy because before you could be allowed to fly solo, the instructor will drill you and your hope and expectations would have gone up so high that you feel convinced in yourself that you safely take that aircraft up and bring it down. The very first time I was taken up in the air I was afraid, but the very first time I went up by myself I was so excited because it is like freedom at last, I am able to fly on my own with the help of God. I’m Chinyere Kalu and by the grace of God the first female pilot of Nigeria”
