I Don’t Feel Like I Am A Christian When I Do My Job, I Feel Like I Am A Citizen Of Syria -Kabawat

Hind Kabawat, Syria’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, has stated that the country cannot survive without unity.

This statement was contained in a report published by JERUSALEM POST on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Kabawat, the only female minister in Syria’s transitional government, questioned the absence of women in leadership during her first day in office.

President Ahmed al-Sharaa assured her that more female appointments would come as Syria continues its transition after the fall of the Assad regime.

Kabawat, a former opposition figure who lived in exile, admitted that mistakes have been made during the transitional period but stressed that such errors are part of rebuilding.

She also dismissed claims that her appointment was symbolic, maintaining that she serves as a Syrian citizen rather than as a representative of a minority or gender.

Her words,

“I am not here for a facade. I don’t feel that I am a Christian or a woman when I do my job. I feel like I am a citizen of Syria. The minute I start feeling like I’m a minority or I’m a woman, I will lose my legitimacy.”
