‘Pres. Tinubu Made Sure That He Appointed People From His Own Ethnic Group To Protect Him’ -Dahiru

Political affairs analyst Dr. Majeed Dahiru commended President Bola Tinubu for intentionally reorganizing the Brigade of Guards and appointing members of his ethnic group to important protective roles in the aftermath of a thwarted coup attempt.

In an interview with Nigerian Info FM, Dr. Dahiru emphasized the unique strategy employed by Tinubu to enhance the security of the presidential guard. He stated, “This is the first time I am aware of a President who appointed the Commander of the Brigade of Guards and specified every officer in that hierarchy. President Tinubu ensured that individuals from his own ethnic group are assigned to protect him, recognizing that this is the ultimate line of defense for the presidency.”

The analyst pointed out that recent leaders have similarly depended on ethnic, regional, and religious allegiances to hinder the formation of consensus that could lead to coups. According to Dr. Dahiru, such loyalties act as inherent obstacles to conspiratorial efforts.

He also mentioned the Department of State Services (DSS) as a key institution intended to permanently avert coups in Nigeria, citing the agency’s specialized resources and training to defend the regime against both internal and external threats. Dr. Dahiru affirmed that the DSS was involved in preventing the alleged coup.
