Rivers crisis: 41 political groups slam Tinubu’s aide over verbal attack on Wike

According to The Punch, the group, acting with the support of about 40 affiliated organisations across Rivers State, accused Bwala—who serves as Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy Communications—of making comments on the Rivers political situation that they claim undermine the authority and image of the Presidency.

In a statement released on Sunday in Port Harcourt and signed by the Director-General of the RRM, Johnson Georgewill, and its Secretary, Sarima Akpata, the group alleged that Bwala has not fully detached himself from his former political allegiance to ex–Vice President Atiku Abubakar, despite his current role in President Tinubu’s administration.

“As a group, we are not surprised over this recent public shame exhibited by a supposed spokesman of the President on the Rivers State political imbroglio because we know Mr Daniel Bwala as one who speaks from both sides of his mouth,” the statement read.

The RRM also questioned Bwala’s political relevance during the 2023 general elections, pointing out that Rivers State stood out as the only state in the South-South and South-East regions won by President Tinubu.

The group further claimed that Bwala’s criticism of Wike was driven by lingering resentment over the former Rivers governor’s role in the 2023 presidential election outcome.

“As a group, we are forced to believe that Mr Bwala is on a mission to destroy the FCT minister because Atiku’s defeat in 2023 was 60 per cent due to the influence of Minister Wike,” the statement added.

In addition, the group faulted Bwala for weighing in on Rivers State politics, arguing that he was not involved in the understanding reached between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Wike following the lifting of emergency rule in the state.

“It is sad that Bwala, who has no political value anywhere in Nigeria, will come on national television to denigrate the FCT minister and rubbish his achievements, which ultimately affects the President’s popularity,” the group said.

The RRM maintained that Wike remains the dominant political figure in Rivers State and the coordinator of President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” political structure in the state, cautioning Bwala to stay away from Rivers political affairs….See_More
