Amaechi Is A Former Speaker, Governor, And Minister, Yet He Does Not Bully’ — Sowunmi Tells Obi

In a recent interview on Channels Television, Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spoke during a live political discussion on Hard Copy, where he addressed leadership conduct, opposition dynamics, and the tone of political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, Showunmi stated, “Amaechi is a former Speaker, governor, and minister, yet he does not bully.” He made the remark while reflecting on the leadership styles of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

He explained that his comment was intended to highlight the importance of restraint and composure in politics, noting that experience in high office should translate into maturity in public engagement. According to him, Amaechi’s political journey across key positions demonstrates that influence does not necessarily require aggressive or domineering behavior.

Showunmi stressed that Nigeria’s political environment has become increasingly heated, with supporters and political actors often resorting to confrontational rhetoric. He argued that such an approach risks deepening divisions rather than strengthening democratic discourse.

He further noted that leaders like Peter Obi, who command significant public followership, must also shape the tone of political conversation, especially among younger supporters who are actively engaged in national debates.

According to him, the opposition space needs a culture of mutual respect, where disagreements are expressed constructively without resorting to hostility or intimidation.

Showunmi added that political maturity and discipline are essential qualities as the country moves closer to another election cycle, emphasizing that leadership is not only about ambition but also about conduct.
