During an interview on Channels Television on Friday, July 10, 2026, Senator Ali Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, engaged in a discussion on religion and identity while responding to questions from Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye.

Ndume explained that he was raised by his Christian mother before later embracing Islam. He stated that his mother remained a Christian until her death, while he eventually became a Muslim, adding that his childhood name was Samuel before it was changed to Muhammad.

Continuing the discussion, Ndume challenged the common expression that people are “children of God,” directing his remarks to the program’s anchor, Seun Okinbaloye.
