Chris Nwaokobia Jnr, Convener of the Country First Movement, has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of brazen dishonesty and called on religious institutions and the media to hold government officials accountable for false statements.
In an interview on Symfoni TV, Nwaokobia cited specific instances where he claims Wike deflected responsibility for controversial decisions.
“The other one (Wike) says, ‘I did not declare a public holiday. Mr. President asked me to. I did not declare a curfew in Abuja,'” Nwaokobia stated. “They lie shamelessly.”
The activist then issued a direct challenge to the media to fulfill its watchdog role.
“And I think that the time has come for the media to speak up and be forthright,” he said.
Nwaokobia also called on religious institutions to take action against government officials who use church platforms to spread misinformation.
“Then, interestingly, the time has come for the churches that allow them to talk from their pulpits to stop them, knowing that these men lie against God and against mankind,” he concluded.
His comments reflect frustration with what he characterizes as a pattern of dishonesty from government officials who attribute their decisions to higher authorities to avoid accountability, while also leveraging religious platforms to build credibility despite making false statements.
