Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has described FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as a formidable political figure whose friendship is strategically valuable.
During an interview with TVC, Fayose addressed recent controversy surrounding the alleged expulsion of certain party members at a convention. He noted that some governors distanced themselves from the action. “Governor Fintiri said they were not part of the expulsion. Governor Mutfwang came out and said we were not part of the expulsion, that it was smuggled into the program,” he stated.
When asked whether the governors’ reactions stemmed from fear of Wike, Fayose acknowledged the reality of political power dynamics. “They should be scared of somebody. In politics, it’s either you are scared of you, or you are scared of them. My name is Fayose. People are scared of me, and I’m scared of some people too,” he said.
Fayose then offered a frank assessment of Wike’s political style. “Wike is a crazy guy; be his friend and it’s good for you. Be his enemy and he will consume you,” he declared.
The former governor also addressed tensions between Wike and Governor Makinde over ministerial appointments. Fayose explained that while Makinde claimed the President asked him to nominate a candidate, that person was not ultimately selected, whereas Wike’s nominee was chosen. He argued that this development is the source of ongoing political friction between the two politicians.
