According to a report by DAILY POST on Wednesday 6th May 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will not allow emotional appeals to influence official decisions regarding land administration and development in Abuja.
Wike made the remark during his monthly press briefing in the nation’s capital while responding to concerns raised by Senior Pastor Sarah Omakwu of Family Worship Centre, who had pleaded against the proposed allocation of the Jabi Lake Recreation Area for private development.
The pastor had earlier gone viral after a video showed her kneeling on the altar, passionately appealing for the preservation of the recreational site for public use.
Reacting to the appeal, Wike maintained that governance decisions must be guided by law, planning, and public interest rather than sentiment.
He questioned the ownership and management history of the site, insisting that previous arrangements had not delivered meaningful development.
“I’m not carried away by emotions,” he said, stressing that the land had been handed to a developer that allegedly failed to properly manage the area, resulting in unregulated structures and poor conditions.
According to him, the current state of the environment around Jabi Lake raises security and safety concerns, especially with the presence of informal structures and inadequate planning.
