When PBAT Was Declared Winner, Cardinal Said He Would Not Recognize Him Until Court Ruling -Adegbite

The Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, Bishop Professor Stephen Adegbite, has accused Cardinal John Onaiyekan of initially refusing to acknowledge President Bola Tinubu’s election victory in 2023.

Adegbite made the allegation during an interview on TVC, “When President Tinubu was declared winner in 2023, Cardinal said he would not recognize him until the ruling is given at the Supreme Court, which is normal. But we said Nigerians have voted and that is what people have said. So until the decision is overturned by the Supreme Court, that is when you can speak. But for us to say we don’t have a president, we told him that we have a president and you cannot tell us we don’t have a president.”

Adegbite went further to express displeasure over what he described as a troubling pattern emerging after Cardinal Onaiyekan’s recent meeting with the President.
