We Were Moving Until We Got To Spot I Couldn’t Move, I Told Them “Go, Don’t Worry For Me-Victim

Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, a teacher who was among the victims of the abduction at a secondary school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has recounted the emotional moment he urged fellow escapees to leave him behind after his injured leg could no longer carry him.

Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Friday, 17 July, 2026, Zacchaeus said he fled into the bush with students and other members of staff after armed men invaded the school. However, his escape became increasingly difficult because he had been suffering from arthritis in his left leg even before the attack.

According to him, “So we were moving together and I was still managing to move. I was telling them let’s go until we got to a spot and I was unable to move again so I told them, ‘please go, don’t worry about me.'”

The teacher explained that although he struggled to keep pace with the others, the pain eventually became too much for him to continue.
