I Hid Under Grass And Used Leaf To Cover My Leg, One Student Saw Me And Said “Oga” I Said “Go-Victim

Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, a teacher who was among the victims of the abduction at a secondary school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has narrated how he hid under thick grass during the attack and pleaded with a student to leave him to avoid being discovered by the armed men.

Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM on Friday, 17 July, 2026, Zacchaeus said he sought refuge in the bush after escaping from the school but was unable to move far because of the pain in his injured leg. He explained that he tried to conceal himself by covering part of his body with leaves while hoping the attackers would pass without noticing him.

According to him, “I hid under the grass and used one of the thick leaf to cover my leg. Immediately I saw another student coming towards me. So that one saw me and said ‘Oga’. I said ‘please go, don’t stay with me’ because our uniform is white and brown and I know they will see the appearance of that white clothe if they bend down. I told that girl to move, the girl did not move and went and stayed in my front.”

The teacher said he was worried that the student’s white-and-brown school uniform would expose both of them to the attackers if they searched the area. Despite his repeated pleas, the student refused to leave and instead remained close to him while they hid in the bush…See_More
