Video: Wike Reacts To Being Listed As Witness By Nnamdi Kanu

According to the report by Channel TV on Friday October 24, 2025, The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to reports that he was listed as one of the witnesses in the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking during a live television interview, Wike expressed surprise over his inclusion among the “compelling witnesses” lined up by Kanu’s defense team, which reportedly includes several prominent Nigerians such as former attorneys-general, former governors, and current government officials including Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Wike, who appeared visibly taken aback by the revelation, said he had not received any official communication from the court or Kanu’s legal team regarding his supposed role in the matter.

“Ask him why he listed Wike as one of his witnesses,” the FCT Minister said. “I didn’t go to say I want to be a witness. Nobody has served me any process or subpoena. You don’t become a witness by reading newspapers.”

The former Rivers State governor made it clear that while he has no reason to evade a lawful court order, he will only appear if officially summoned.

“If I am subpoenaed to come and give evidence, I must obey the court and appear,” Wike stated. “But not because I saw my name on the pages of newspapers. Nobody does that.”

When asked why he thought Kanu’s defense team might have included him on the list, Wike shrugged off speculation, saying only those responsible for compiling the list could provide an answer.

His reaction comes amid renewed public interest in Nnamdi Kanu’s case, following protests earlier in the week calling for his release. The IPOB leader, who has been in custody since 2021, was scheduled to open his defense this week in the charges bordering on treasonable felony filed against him by the Federal Government.

As proceedings continue, attention is now shifting toward the credibility and implications of the witness list particularly the inclusion of top political figures who claim to have no prior knowledge of their involvement.

With Wike’s reaction, the drama surrounding Kanu’s trial appears to be taking yet another political twist, one that could reignite debate over the intersection of law, politics, and national unity in Nigeria’s complex judicial landscape.Read Original
