Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, has raised alarms about the conduct of the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, describing what he sees as intentional efforts to undermine a leading candidate as a “test” for future national contests. In a video shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tanko urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and protective of the electoral process amid reported delays and discrepancies in results collation.

In a video posted on X, Tanko said the situation unfolding in the FCT elections parallels broader concerns about transparency in Nigeria’s electoral system, and he called on supporters and stakeholders to actively resist any manipulation of results. His comments reflect widespread conversations among civil society observers who have also flagged technical issues with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV), saying results uploaded from polling units were not displaying publicly as expected—a development perceived by some as undermining transparency.

According to him, “So now I’m using this opportunity to call on all Nigerians to be vigilant and come out in this respect. Yes, I know some people are saying, “Why am I not there?” I’m there myself. And this is the time also the political party leaders of the ADC must come out with a volume of positions saying no to this election rigging because the target is to rig out Dr. Mo, who is already leading in this particular election, and this is the test that they’re trying to arrange for the general election.
