Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, has blamed Nigeria’s persistent insecurity on the lack of military authority within the country’s defense leadership. He argued that the absence of experienced military professionals in key security positions has weakened the command structure and hindered effective action, as reported by THE CABLE on Thursday November 27 2025.
Speaking during a Senate plenary session, Fadahunsi, a retired customs officer, expressed frustration over the military’s inability to respond effectively to the nation’s security threats. He noted that despite President Bola Tinubu’s significant investment in the armed forces, the military has failed to deliver meaningful results.
Fadahunsi criticized the appointment of individuals without military backgrounds to top defense roles, describing them as businessmen rather than seasoned commanders. He believes this leadership gap has led to poor coordination and a lack of discipline within the security apparatus.
Fadahunsi said, “The command structure of what is happening today, the minister is not a retired general, the minister of state, all of them are businessmen.”
