The Issue Of Who’s Going To Run Or Not Is The Handwork Of Tinubu—Led APC Administration—Atiku’s Aide

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, has addressed speculations suggesting that Atiku might step down for a younger candidate in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview with Trust TV News, Ibe dismissed such reports as misleading, clarifying that Atiku’s earlier remarks were misinterpreted.

He explained that the former vice president’s statement was taken out of context, stressing that Atiku’s position was rooted in democratic principles.

“The interview that he had and what he said was unambiguous. What he said from the original Hausa transcript was that he is open to having a contest,” Ibe said.

“As a democrat, Atiku Abubakar has always made himself available. Democracy is about making choices — that’s why we go to cast our votes.”

He further explained that elections are conducted in two phases — the primaries and the general elections — and Atiku’s comments were merely an invitation to other aspirants, including young Nigerians, to participate in the democratic process.

“What he said in that interview was an invitation to other people, including young people who feel they have something to bring to the table, to join the contest. If, peradventure, any of them emerges as the candidate, without hesitation, he will give his 100% support,” he clarified.

Ibe emphasized that democracy allows for both contest and consensus, but ultimately, the people’s votes decide the outcome.

He, however, accused the ruling Tinubu-led APC administration of fueling unnecessary political debates.
