Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has said the real issue surrounding the ongoing tensions in the Middle East is Iran’s long-standing hostility toward Israel, insisting that the matter is not about Israel itself but about the threat posed by Iran.
According to a recent video by Arise TV on Friday, March 6, 2026, Freeman argued that Iran has consistently declared its intention to destroy Israel and has backed those threats with actions over several decades.
According to him, Iran is the only country within the United Nations that openly calls for another nation to be wiped off the map. He said Tehran’s policies, which include the development of ballistic missile and nuclear programmes, pose a direct threat to Israel’s survival.
Freeman also accused Iran of sponsoring terrorist groups across different regions of the world, claiming the country has supported attacks targeting Israelis and Jewish communities.
He maintained that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is not only justified but necessary to ensure Israel’s security and prevent a potentially devastating conflict in the future.
