A Former Obio Akpor Local Government Chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo, has revealed that an arrangement existed for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2026 budget before the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly when lawmakers resumed plenary, with the initial adjournment date set for January 21st.
Ihunwo alleged that the assembly suddenly changed their plans and acted sinisterly with an impeachment move. “The governor said I’m going to present the 2026 budget when you people resume plenary.’ And they adjourned till January 21st. And now they are coming back on the 8th to say, ‘Look, we are presenting an impeachment notice on the governor.’ Is that not laughable? Somebody somewhere is beating the drum for them,” he said in an interview with TVC.
The former council chairman questioned whether the lawmakers would have dared to challenge former Governor Nyesom Wike in a similar manner during his tenure. “Most of those members in the Assembly were also in the Assembly when Governor Wike was governor. Can they try this during his tenure as governor? The answer is no. Martin Amaewhule, who is the speaker, was also the leader of the State Assembly back then. Can he try what he is doing now with Wike?” he asked.
