A motorcycle thief in Mbale, eastern Uganda, ended up bringing the bike back himself after he was swarmed by bees, in a bizarre incident that has gone viral across Uganda and beyond.
Videos circulating on social media from Saturday, June 6, 2026, show a man in a white shirt and brown cap riding a motorcycle slowly while hundreds of bees cling to his back, shoulders, and parts of his body. Onlookers, including children and adults, gathered to watch as he moved through the area. Some people in the clips appeared to be guiding him, while another man in a brown polo shirt was seen speaking excitedly to the crowd.
Instead of fleeing with the bike, the man returned it to the area it was taken from. The exact time, location in Mbale, and owner’s identity have not been officially confirmed.
Locals sharing the videos suggested the motorcycle owner may have used traditional means, including visiting a traditional healer, to recover his property. Stories of bees being “sent” after thieves are not new in parts of Uganda, and the Mbale episode has revived those conversations. Some viewers speculated it was folklore, while others joked it was simply a clever trick involving a queen bee..The footage drew thousands of reactions on X, formerly Twitter.
One user wrote: “This was a great moment! A man who stole a motorcycle ended up returning it after being attacked by bees. It seems the people of Mbale have found a unique solution to crime! Maybe we should send those bees to Byakama.” The post received over 850 likes.
Others chimed in: “It’s like stealing from Mbale isn’t possible, u steal u bring it back in broad daylight!!” and “This is interesting… People in Mbale have surely found their way of managing such cases in the community.” Many called it “nature doing police work” or “African juju at work.” Some joked that Nigeria should “import the bees” to deal with motorcycle theft in Lagos.
Uganda Police in the Elgon Region have not issued an official statement on the incident as of press time. Authorities have repeatedly urged the public not to take the law into their own hands and to report theft to police stations for proper investigation…See More
