Shehu Sani Questions PDP Protesters: ‘Exactly What Do You Want the U.S. to Do for You?

Senator Shehu Sani has mocked a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that staged a protest at the United States Embassy in Abuja, questioning why the group decided to take the party’s internal disputes to a foreign mission.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the former Kaduna Central lawmaker wrote “The PDP faction protesting with placards at the US Embassy in Abuja about your internal crisis, what do you want the US to do?”

The protest reportedly involved a group of aggrieved PDP members demanding the intervention of the international community, particularly the United States, in what they described as a breakdown of internal democracy within the party. They accused the current national leadership of marginalization, high-handedness, and disregard for party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, Senator Sani’s comment underscored a growing national frustration with the tendency of some political actors to seek foreign endorsement or validation in resolving domestic political issues. The former senator, known for his sharp wit and fearless criticism of both ruling and opposition parties, implied that the faction’s approach was both misplaced and unnecessary.

The protest reflects the worsening internal wrangling that has continued to bedevil the PDP since its loss of federal power in 2015. Despite attempts at reconciliation, the party remains divided along regional, ideological, and leadership lines, divisions that have repeatedly weakened its performance in subsequent elections.

Senator Shehu Sani, a human rights activist turned politician, has remained a strong voice in Nigeria’s political discourse. Known for his sardonic humor and political realism, his latest post once again demonstrates his knack for framing serious national issues in simple but powerful questions, ones that often expose the contradictions of the country’s political class.
