According to report by Vanguard News on Monday, April 27, 2026, former Kaduna Central senator and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Sani, has dismissed the growing support for Peter Obi as largely driven by ethnic sentiments rather than policy-based conviction.
He argued that such backing does not necessarily reflect a genuine desire for transformative leadership, describing it instead as exaggerated political enthusiasm.
Sani made these remarks during an appearance on “The Honest Bunch Podcast,” where he featured alongside activist Deji Adeyanju to discuss national politics and governance.
While defending the performance of the current administration led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sani maintained that the President remains well-positioned to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, a change in leadership involving Obi would not significantly alter Nigeria’s political or economic trajectory.
He argued that many of the country’s prominent political figures—including Olusegun Obasanjo and Atiku Abubakar—share similar ideological foundations, suggesting that differences among them are often overstated.
Sani further contended that the opposition does not offer a fundamentally distinct alternative to the ruling party, as many actors across the political spectrum operate within the same framework of ideas and governance approaches.
In his view, Nigerians are frequently presented with familiar narratives repackaged as new solutions, which can create a misleading perception of change.
Reaffirming his confidence in the APC, Sani predicted that Tinubu would emerge victorious in the next presidential election.
He also expressed a rather cynical outlook on the political landscape, implying that voters are often left to choose between options that may not significantly differ in substance.
Overall, his comments highlight ongoing debates about ideology, leadership, and the nature of political support in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 polls….See More
