According to a report by News Central TV, on Wednesday April 29, 2026, the Nigerian federal government has formally demanded an investigation into the recent deaths of two Nigerians in South Africa, sparking a fresh diplomatic uproar as concerns grow over the safety of foreign nationals in the country.
The Nigerian consulate general in Johannesburg confirmed that Amaramiro Emmanuel and Ebayong Andrew were killed in separate attacks linked to rising anti-foreign sentiments.
Officials report that one of the victims died following an alleged assault involving security personnel.
As the government engages with South African authorities, the incident has reignited intense debate regarding the adequacy of current diplomatic responses to recurring xenophobic violence.
Adeniyi Kunnu, a Global Policy Analyst, expressed deep frustration with the diplomatic approach, arguing that current measures have failed to provide accountability or ensure the safety of Nigerians living legally in South Africa.
“The satellite television that we watch in Nigeria is connected to South Africa even if people are saying that they’ve completely sold the shares to us no there’s a percentage that still goes to South Africa,” Kunnu remarked. “We can use the power of economic possibilities in this country to demand that President Ramaphosa and his executive do certain things that will protect the people.”
Kunnu further emphasized his disappointment with the lack of progress in addressing these recurring attacks.
