Human rights lawyer Aloy Ejimakor has issued a strong warning to politicians in Nigeria’s Southeast region ahead of the 2027 general elections, linking their electoral prospects to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
In a recent statement shared on social media, Ejimakor urged Southeast politicians who are aspiring to contest in the 2027 elections to take the issue seriously. He argued that the political climate in the region could be significantly influenced by whether Kanu is released in the near future.
“Southeast politicians aspiring to contest the 2027 elections should bear this in mind: if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not freed in the near term, it will ruin your chances in the 2027 elections. Don’t ask me how,” he stated.
Ejimakor’s remarks suggest that Kanu’s continued detention remains a deeply sensitive issue within the Southeast, one that could shape voter sentiment and political outcomes. By warning politicians directly, he implied that the electorate in the region may base part of their decisions on how political leaders respond to or address the situation.
He went further to extend his message beyond regional politicians, stating that the implications could also affect Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to Ejimakor, the Southeast will not easily forget the circumstances surrounding Kanu’s case.
“The same fate awaits President Tinubu because the Southeast will remember,” he added.
The statement underscores the significance of Kanu’s case in national political discourse, particularly as preparations gradually begin for the next election cycle. Ejimakor’s comments indicate that unresolved issues tied to the case could continue to resonate politically over time….See More
