Human rights activist Ene Obi, speaking during a protest at the National Assembly building in Abuja, has dismissed claims that rural communities lacking telecommunications infrastructure cannot support real-time electronic transmission of electoral results.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Obi clarified misconceptions about how electronic result transmission functions technically. “We are asking the Senate to come back to the real-time transmission—electronic transmission—because there seems to be misunderstanding the way people are explaining electronic transmission. We say: upload from the ward level, from the voting point, from the polling unit. Even if you are saying it’s in a place where there is no network—as soon as you get to a network environment, the result uploads on the IREV,” She said.
She urged the Senate to maintain its previous commitment to electronic result transmission, arguing that the system builds public confidence and trust in electoral processes. “The real-time transmission is about: when people vote, it will count. What we want is a transparent and accountable system. Transmit. Let whoever deserves it win,” Obi stated.
