In a recent statement via his official X account, human rights lawyer and public affairs analyst, Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, has criticized a recent move linked to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, concerning schoolchildren in Abia North.
”Because we said #RetireOUK, efulefu now wants to be the daddy of every child going to school in Abia North? I am glad he is finding a way to make our tailors richer. Next year we’ll #RetireOUK, @OUKtweets; he has stolen enough and destroyed even more,” he wrote.
In his post, Odinkalu was reacting to reports showing that the former Abia State governor was involved in providing school uniforms to pupils in the area.
In his view, the action was not driven by genuine concern for education but was a political response to growing calls for Kalu to step aside from public office and suggested that the gesture was an attempt to rebrand the senator’s image amid public dissatisfaction.
Odinkalu argued that such symbolic actions do not address deeper issues affecting governance and accountability in the state and the country at large.
According to him, the move appeared designed to present Kalu as a benefactor to families, rather than as a public official expected to deliver long-term development and implied that the sudden focus on schoolchildren was a reaction to sustained public pressure demanding political change.
He further stated that calls for Kalu’s retirement from politics would continue, he expressed confidence that public demands for accountability would grow stronger in the coming year.
The activist accused the former governor of causing lasting damage to institutions and public trust during his time in office, he argued that no amount of charitable gestures could erase the impact of past actions on the state’s development.
