Presidential spokesman on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has criticized anchors of Arise News over their reaction to the reported defection of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a post on his X handle, Bwala accused some presenters on the station’s morning programme of bias, alleging that they failed to critically address Obi’s decision to switch political parties.
He specifically called out media personalities Oseni Rufai and Ayo Mairo-Ese, describing them in harsh terms and questioning their neutrality.
Bwala claimed he had waited to hear their reaction following Obi’s reported move, particularly in light of previous criticisms by Obi’s supporters against politicians who frequently change parties.
“Sadly, Rufai chose to be quiet like a graveyard… while Ayo, instead of addressing unstable political characteristics, made a case for his right to defect,” he wrote.
He further alleged hypocrisy within sections of the media, accusing some journalists of acting as propagandists rather than maintaining objectivity.
The remarks have sparked reactions online, with supporters and critics debating issues of media independence, political bias, and the broader implications of Obi’s reported defection.
