‎Peter Obi Doesn’t Want Primaries Anywhere, He Just Wants To Walk In, And We Hand Him The Ticket—ADC

‎In a recent interview with The Sun on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, has raised concerns about the political approach of former presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of future elections.

‎He stated that there is a growing conversation around how some politicians present themselves as being deeply committed to fixing Nigeria, according to him, this kind of message is now common in political circles and noted that many actors in the political space also claim to have the same level of urgency to improve the country.

‎Abdullahi focused his criticism on how party nominations are being sought, he said there are suggestions that Obi does not want to take part in normal party primaries, instead, he claimed the expectation is that the party should simply give him the presidential ticket without competition.

‎He described this situation as unusual in party politics, he said political parties are built on internal democracy, where aspirants are expected to contest for tickets through a fair process and argued that bypassing such a process weakens trust within the party system.

‎He stated that the concern goes beyond just receiving a direct ticket, according to him, there are claims that Obi would also want control over the choice of a running mate, he suggested that such a level of control over both positions is not common in democratic party arrangements.

‎”He doesn’t want primaries anywhere. He just wants to walk in, and we hand him the ticket. And in this matter, what is worse, he’s not just wanting the ticket, he also wants to decide who will be the running mate. Have you seen that kind of thing before?” he said….See More
