Notorious North-West Bandit Leader, Mala’ikan Mada, Killed In Zamfara Rival Gang Fight

According to a report by LEADERSHIP Newspaper on Sunday, May 10, 2026, a feared bandit leader identified as Kachalla Haire has reportedly been killed during a violent clash between rival armed groups in Zamfara State, according to security sources.

The deceased, popularly known by the alias “Mala’ikan Mada,” was said to have been involved in several criminal activities across parts of the North-West, including kidnappings, armed attacks and killings that have long terrorised rural communities in the region.

Military and local intelligence sources disclosed that the incident occurred on May 8 following a dispute between two factions of armed groups over the sharing of loot linked to a deceased gang leader.

What began as a disagreement reportedly escalated into a full-scale gun battle between the rival factions, resulting in the death of Kachalla Haire and several other fighters involved in the confrontation.

Sources familiar with the situation said the bandit leader had been operating mainly around the Mada axis in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks by armed criminal groups over the years.

Residents in affected communities were said to have expressed relief following reports of his death, describing him as one of the key figures responsible for sustained insecurity, fear and displacement in the area.

Some locals reportedly noted that his activities contributed significantly to the cycle of violence that has affected farming, trade and daily life in several rural settlements.

The latest development is also being viewed as part of a broader pattern of internal conflict among armed bandit groups operating across Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West region.
