Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised suggestions that recent security incidents in parts of the country may be politically engineered, describing such claims as senseless and dangerous in the face of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Okonkwo made the remarks during an interview on SYMFONI Television’s *Niger Unfiltered* on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while responding to broader commentary on rising kidnappings and bandit attacks, including a recent incident in Oyo State where school children and their teachers were abducted by armed assailants.

The discussion referenced public insinuations, including claims attributed to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, suggesting that the Oyo State government could be involved in orchestrating or enabling attacks in the state in order to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Reacting to such narratives, Okonkwo dismissed the idea as baseless and illogical, warning against politicising violent crimes that continue to devastate communities across the country.

He argued that such reasoning undermines serious efforts to confront insecurity and shifts attention away from the urgent need for effective security responses.
