Oriire: I Didn’t Inform Taiwo’s Mother That She Was Kidnapped, I Only Told Her Yesterday-Adeyemi

Grace Adeyemi, the grandmother of one of the abducted Oriire 10-year-old school pupils, Taiwo, has revealed that the child’s mother was unaware of the kidnapping throughout the period of the abduction because she was away in the Benin Republic.

Adeyemi disclosed this during an interview on TVC News on Thursday, 16 July, 2026, following the release and reunion of the kidnapped pupils with their families. She explained that she deliberately withheld the heartbreaking information from Taiwo’s mother until she returned home, fearing the emotional impact the news could have on her while she was outside the country.

Recounting the family’s ordeal, Adeyemi said, “Her mother traveled to Benin Republic. I didn’t inform her that her child was kidnapped. I only told her yesterday when she reunited with me.” She noted that the child’s mother only learned about the abduction after returning and reuniting with the family, by which time efforts to secure the children’s freedom had already progressed.

The grandmother’s account highlights the emotional burden carried by families during the period the pupils remained in captivity.
