According to a report by Daily Post, on Friday April 24, 2026, a political analyst, Hassan Ibrahim, has stated that the question of which of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso has the strongest political base depends on how political strength is defined.
Speaking on the issue, he explained that if national spread is the main measure, then Atiku Abubakar has the widest political base among the three opposition figures, he said Atiku’s performance in the 2023 presidential election showed that he has support across different parts of the country, according to him, Atiku was able to win 12 states during the election.
Ibrahim noted that these victories came from four different geopolitical zones, which he said makes Atiku the most nationally distributed candidate among the trio, he added that Atiku’s ability to win states in different regions shows that his appeal is not limited to one part of the country, he said this includes the North-East, North-West, South-West, and South-South zones.
According to him, this spread gives Atiku an advantage when discussions focus on nationwide political reach, he stressed that while other candidates also have strong support bases in their regions, Atiku stands out when the issue is national coverage.
He stated that this kind of spread is important in presidential elections, where candidates need votes from multiple regions to succeed and stated that the strength of any candidate depends on the angle being considered, but on national spread, Atiku Abubakar remains the strongest among the three major opposition figures.
