Okpebholo promised Tinubu 3.5m votes,Edo population is 2.7m. Must you expose you are empty-headed?- Kenneth Okonkwo

An ADC chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to weaken opposition parties, especially the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking with Symfoni, he said there was a coordinated effort to destabilise the ADC, a claim he noted had also been made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He added that similar tactics were used against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pointing to the appointment of Nyesom Wike as minister and comments linked to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, suggesting support for President Bola Tinubu instead of presenting a candidate.

Okonkwo said the ADC remained the only strong opposition party and denied claims of internal crisis. Reacting to the attack on the home of former Edo State Governor, John Odige-Oyegun, he insisted it was not a case of infighting but an external attack, which he described as an assassination attempt.

He noted that some party leaders were present during the incident, which involved gunshots, and rejected the claim by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, that it was caused by internal issues.

He questioned why no arrests had been made despite the incident happening in broad daylight and involving unmarked vehicles, suggesting that the state might be involved.

He also referred to his interaction with Senator Roland Owie, saying it showed that those present were loyal party members and unlikely to act against the party.

Okonkwo further maintained that there was no internal crisis in Edo State and claimed that even within the APC, the state governor was not taken seriously. He said the governor and his supporters were treated as unimportant at party events, which, according to him, showed how little recognition they received within their own party.

Further talking, he said, “You know what he (Okpebholo) said? He said they promised Tinubu 3.5 million votes from Edo. The population of Edo State is about 2.7 million. In the last election, the total number of voters was not up to one million. Yet they are promising Tinubu 3.5 million.

“Do such people appear to you as people who have sense? They don’t. By this arithmetic—I am not speaking legally or grammatically—I am speaking arithmetically. They say 3.5 million votes for Tinubu. Is there no end to sycophancy?
