Peter Obi, one of the presidential aspirants in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said his primary objective is to unite Nigeria and promote a culture of empathy and shared responsibility among citizens, regardless of ethnic, religious, or regional differences.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on SYMFONI TV, where he spoke extensively about his vision for national unity, leadership, and the need for a forward-looking approach to governance as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, Nigeria’s progress has been hindered by a persistent focus on past grievances and unresolved differences, which continue to shape political discourse and public perception. He stressed that moving beyond such divisions is essential for meaningful development.
In his words, “I have said it: I want to change Nigeria, and I will start by uniting the country, ensuring that we love and care for each other.” He emphasized that unity must be built on mutual respect and a willingness among citizens to see themselves as part of a common national project.
Obi further stated that “Nigeria cannot move forward if we continue to dwell on the past or refuse to forgive ourselves,” adding that reconciliation and collective responsibility are necessary to build trust and stability across the country.
He explained that his broader plan is to promote love, peace, and understanding among Nigerians, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved in an environment where citizens feel connected and secure.
The former governor also pointed out that nations that fail to embrace forgiveness and future-oriented thinking often struggle to achieve growth. “A country that does not forgive and does not think about the future will continue to struggle,” he said, urging both leaders and citizens to adopt a more progressive mindset.
Obi maintained that leadership must set the tone for unity by demonstrating fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability in governance. He added that political leaders must lead by example in fostering cooperation across different segments of society.
Speaking on his plans for regional development, Obi highlighted the importance of equitable governance across all parts of Nigeria, particularly in areas that have historically faced developmental challenges.
He said, “That is why I said what I am going to do in the North will amaze everybody,” suggesting that his administration, if given the opportunity, would prioritize impactful policies and projects that address long-standing issues in the region.
According to him, his vision for the North includes investments in education, agriculture, and economic empowerment, aimed at unlocking the region’s potential and improving the quality of life for its residents…See More
