The President of the Arewa Youths, Abdul-Hamid Dan-Bature Garba, has said that Peter Obi should not expect support from northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He made the remarks in a YouTube video shared by News Century TV on August 5, 2026. Garba claimed that Obi would not receive votes from any state in the North during the election.
According to Garba, “Peter Obi should not expect any vote from any northern state in the 2027 presidential election.”
He alleged that Obi neither consulted the group nor reached any agreement with it before declaring his intention to contest. Garba maintained that the absence of any prior engagement meant the group had no reason to support Obi’s ambition, saying, “He never consulted us, and he never had any agreement with us before declaring his intention to contest.”
Garba further stated that the North would instead support a candidate who stood with former President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 election. He argued that such a candidate had demonstrated support for northern Nigeria, although he did not identify any individual the group intended to endorse.
He said, “The North will support someone who stood with former President Buhari in 2015 because such a person has demonstrated support for the region.”
Garba also warned that the organisation would take disciplinary action against any state coordinator who supported Obi in defiance of its position.
According to him, “Any state coordinator who supports Peter Obi against the position of this organisation will be removed and replaced.”
